How AI usage works

Plain answers about the AI allowance on every Ledger AI plan. The numbers below are measured across every business on Ledger AI over the last 30 days, as of September 13, 2026.

~550questions a month on Ledger Solo's $60
~1,400questions a month on Ledger Pro's $150

What the allowance is

Every plan includes a monthly AI allowance: $60 on Ledger Solo, $150 on Ledger Pro, and every teammate seat on Pro carries its own $50. Your 14-day free trial runs on the full Pro allowance.

It's a dollar meter, not a question count, because a one-line answer costs less than a ten-step job. You can see it any time in the app under Settings → AI allowance: how much you've used this month against what's included. It starts fresh at your plan's amount on the 1st of every month.

What one question costs

Ledger is billed by the work an answer takes — how much it has to read (your question, the records it pulls up, the conversation so far) and how much it writes back. A quick "what's my balance" is a few cents. A long job that pulls last month's invoices, checks the calendar and drafts an estimate costs more, because Ledger reads and writes more to do it.

There's no per-question fee, no minimum and no rounding up. The meter moves by the exact amount of work each answer took.

What that buys you

  • Ledger Solo, $60 a month — roughly 550 questions. That's about 18 a day, every day of the month.
  • Ledger Pro, $150 a month — roughly 1,400 questions. About 45 a day.
A real month. The founder's own tire shop — a busy one, on QuickBooks, scanning every receipt and asking Ledger about the books all day — used $27 of AI in August 2026. Less than half the Solo allowance.

What counts against it

  • Questions to Ledger — typed, or spoken out loud on iPhone
  • Advisor Mode
  • Receipt Radar reading receipts from your Gmail
  • Matching up your price list when you upload one
  • The small helpers that write invoice descriptions and remember facts about your business

What doesn't

  • Front Desk answering your missed callers — included in Ledger Pro
  • Missed-call auto-texts and night-before reminders
  • Crew job links, day sheets and time cards
  • Customer portals and quote approvals
  • Your booking page
  • Texting — that runs on its own texting credit ($10 on Solo, $25 on Pro)
  • Talking to our support chat

When it runs out

Ledger's chat pauses until the 1st. Everything else keeps working — invoicing, payments, booking, crew, phone, customer portals. Need more before then? Buy a Power-Up in the app, on web or iPhone:

⚡ Boost$25 → $25 of AI
🔥 Power Pack$50 → $55 of AI$5 bonus
🚀 Heavy Hitter$100 → $120 of AI$20 bonus

It's credited the second the payment clears. A Power-Up adds to the current month's allowance; on the 1st the meter starts fresh at your plan's included amount.

No surprise bills

The allowance is a cap, not a tab. Ledger never spends past it on its own, and the only way to add more is to buy a Power-Up yourself — always shown with its price before you pay. Unused allowance doesn't carry over, and you're never charged for it.

Your first 14 days: one US$20 credit

Eligible new owners and businesses receive one shared US$20 AI onboarding credit after verification. It lasts for the original 14-day trial, does not reset on the 1st and is shared with teammates. The monthly Solo and Pro allowances described above begin on paid activation. No automatic top-ups. Read the offer details →
